Miss Universe Japan opens up about her racist critics

Being biracial in a Miss Universe Japan pageant is a quick way to court controversyWinning that pageant? That makes headlines all over the world.

When Ariana Miyamoto won the crown for Miss Universe Japan in March, the decision immediately drew ire from Japanese fans. Why? Because Miyamoto is half-black. The 20-year-old, who was born and raised in Japan, is African American on her father's side, making her the first biracial contestant to win the Miss Universe Japan title.
